Wow!! The Smoke Stack Hobby Shop just completed the most eventful weekend in the history of the shop!
We started off by hosting our First Annual Model Show on Friday evening, July 18th. The show ran from 6-9 p.m. and was open to all types of models: cars, armor, aircraft, sci-fi, fantasy, model railroad, and anything else that people wanted to show off. We had a very good turnout for our first try at this. Spectators munched on cheese, chips, cookies, brownies and lemonade as they browsed the array of modeling talent on display. Below is a sample of some of the beautiful work.
The next day, Saturday, The Smoke Stack Hobby Shop was at the Fairfield County fairgrounds as a part of the Lancaster Festival Fair Day. We had a booth setup where we showed off some of the items we carry in the shop. We had model kits, R/C cars. drones, R/C airplanes, and trains. We also had 200 old-time wooden glider kits that we helped kids assemble and they could take home for free. Master Modeler Murph and 51 were there to supervise and Murph even gave drone and quadcopter demos throughout the day.
On Sunday July 20th, the hobby shop sponsored a bus trip to Cleveland for the National Train Show. 34 model railroaders boarded the bus at 8:00 a.m. and we set off for the Cleveland Convention Center. Many of the industries’ top manufacturers were there (Atlas, Mike’s Train House, Bachmann, Digitrax, and Woodland Scenics to name a few) and provided many hands-on demos as well as functioning displays for the guys and gals to view. There were also a large number of layout tables of all scales as well as many smaller vendors selling a full range of products. We returned to Lancaster at 7:00 p.m. a tired but happy group. Below are some photos and a few short videos of the show.
It was a busy but fun weekend and we are already brainstorming about what our next events will be.
