Stack Talk – Vol.3 Issue 12

SSHS Mobile UnitWell here we are at Vol. 3 – Issue 12. The close of another year.  and that means the short and sweet issue, so you can get back to your holiday fun.

It’s been a fantastic year for us here at The Smoke Stack. We really stretched our wings this year and tried so many new things. The biggest new thing for us was the acquisition of our Mobile Hobby Shop. We took this baby on the road to Canal Winchester, Racine, Zanesville, the Fairfield County Fair, the IPMS show in Columbus, and used it many times to haul purchases we made for shop use. We had a blast at all the shows and plan on doing it again next year, with even more events on the calendar.

The Fossil Rock Raiders Model Train Barn held open houses on December 5th and 6th and again on December 19th and 20th. Ralph and Tad are a two man crew that have designed and built over a dozen layouts of all scales (some layouts featuring multiple scales) inside a two-story barn on Ralph’s property. The show is free to the public, so as you can imagine, they draw quite a crowd. They host over 200 hundred visitors per day for each day of the show. This is quite an undertaking for a two-man crew, especially when one of them double-times as Santa Claus! Some of our Smoke Stack regulars made a trip down to Shade, Ohio one Sunday to help Ralph and Tad with the show. We were able to run the trains, answer questions, and generally keep things moving along while Ralph and Santa Tad could meet and speak with all of their visitors. We can’t wait for next year!! Below are some photographs from the Train Barn. Click on any of the images for a larger view.
